The gift of giving back

With Christmas fast approaching (can you believe its less than a month now, crazy!!!) its easy to get caught up in the hoopla that is the circus surrounding it. That's why we like to take a step back & put some focus on helping those going thru a hard time. Every financial year Luke & I choose a couple charitys to sponsor; last year it was Oxfam, Salvation Army, Ovarian cancer research & Red Cross.

I thought I would highlight a few more charities (we are also personally helping this financial year) who could use a very welcome helping hand; Kmart wishing tree (we do this every year with Kobe, I just have to make sure he doesn't sneakily open the gifts before we donate them), Brain foundation, Motor neurone disease, Princess Margaret hospitalFoodbank (I shall be collecting packaged & tin food soon so if your Perthbound & would like to help feel free to reach out & get in contact:))

Every $ is vital. No amount too small. If you aren't in a position to donate $, volunteers are always in shortage or try holding a fundraiser/food drive to show your support:)

Happy Friday friends!

Where to find fabulous preloved clothing in Perth

I like to pride myself on being frugal when dressing myself. (I also like bright patterned things if you cant tell:)). So I thought it would be nice to share my tips on where to shop for fabulous preloved clothing.

*Vintage markets are a mecca of carefully selected used clothing, my favourite include Polkadot vintage markets, the vintage clothing stalls at the fringe markets & Bindaring clothing sale.

*Op shops like Salvation army, Anglicare, RSPCA stores, Good Sammys, Red cross shops are a goldmine if your prepared to dig for a treasure. Check this site incase I missed any. My personal fave is Rags to riches. Its a bit junkier than other op shops but I have walked away with Lisa Ho & Cue for less than $10:)

*Garage sales & markets. Pencil in Melville & Belmont markets if your up early enough on a Sunday morning.

*Ebay, Gumtree & Facebook selling groups.

Happy thrifting!

Stripe dress/ 4 ways

I picked up this Cotton on dress from the local op shop the other week, with tags on & all. I love a stripe & I find this cut quite flattering plus its stretchy material so no ironing. Yippee!!! I enjoyed wearing it so much I may of overdone it in the first week & sneakily wore it a few different ways before I reluctantly put it in the laundry pile.

Look 1 (above): I teamed it with a white Kookai vest that's been collecting dust since my office days. Those metallic harriet slides I broke my nothing new 2014 clothing challenge for. In my defence, I wear them pretty much every 2nd day.

Look 2: Still keeping it simple I added a felt hat my lovely sister bought me back from a travelling trip, borrowed some of her chunky rings & slipped on these quirky wedge shoes that cost me less than $10 at the markets. This outfit cost me around $16. I like to shop frugally.

Look 3: Nothing like channelling French sheek with the stripe dress & black raffia hat (FYI this hat  is really annoying & always slips off, I think its designed for the races like an alternative to the fascinator). Minimal accessories again with a thrifted Samantha Wills anchor necklace, round glasses & my trusty big tote bag that fits all my bits & bobs in.

Look 4: My little sidekick joined me for this photo shoot, I couldn't decide whether to wear the harriet slides again or some white canvas shoes (which Im holding). The lil one made the decision by wearing the harriet ones lol. I left the anchor necklace on & added some cat eye sunnies & wrapped a acid wash denim jacket around my waist. I also think a green anorak (which I don't own) would look fabulous with this stripe dress.

Happy Thursday friends!

This space

Its coming up to a year since I started this space. I originally started this space to promote a vintage clothes business however over the days, months its been trying to find any fabulous vintage pieces to sell at a fair price to reflect time spent; sourcing pristine stock, cleaning, photographing, editing, uploading, answering queries & posting. Not to mention storage in a tiny house where there is no spare room & mums guilt of leaving kobe under someones elses care while I trollop off to search for items & mostly come home empty handed. I don't want to miss the small moments of him growing up so I happy to be at home with him for the time present & focus on being the best mum I can be.

So instead Im gravitating more (on what I already had been doing but adding more depth) on things I rather enjoy like creating, & sewing (keep an eye out on upcoming things I made giveaways), motherhood, the ongoing quest on green living (& the failures too), travel adventures, promoting Perth, a few budget tips on one income families & fashion tidbits.

So that's my plans for this space plus getting a bit of a website image update. I will still be selling some of my personal clothing so I will keep you posted on any wardrobe cleanouts as Im doing a declutter before Christmas.

Happy Monday friends!
